The journey to 100 episodes begins with a single step. Only 6% make it.

Hi, Reader.

Recently, one of my clients published their 100th episode, which is a pretty big deal in the podcasting world.

If you're ready to see what the journey to 100 episodes looks like, stick with me ๐Ÿ‘‡

Less than 6% of podcasts reach 100 episodes

Thankfully, PodMatch and Buzzsprout update this particular statistic each month. As of August 2026, only 5.8% of podcasters have reached 100 episodes.

Let's do the math. How much calendar time does it take to reach 100 episodes? Well, that depends on your publishing frequency.

  • Monthly = 8 years, 4 months
  • Twice-Monthly = 4 years, 2 months
  • Weekly = 1 year, 11 months

Ground Transportation Podcast 100th Episode Special

To celebrate 100 episodes, I joined Ken and James to reflect on the journey and bring in clips from their favorite moments on the podcast.

What does the journey look like?

Maintaining a weekly cadence is challenging. Especially for founders and business owners. For the Ground Transportation Podcast, reaching 100 episodes required Ken Lucci and James Blain to dedicate their Friday afternoons to recording. Every week.

"This podcast is like having a part-time job." Ken likes to say. But that doesn't mean it's not worth it. The podcast has produced new business for both Driving Transactions and PAX Training, and Ken and James have become akin to celebrities at industry conferences.

The podcast has grown to become a major industry media outlet. And it's been a grassroots effort. The spike in video views you see from January 2026 in the chart below was from a $50 test on YouTube ads. Everything else is from organic efforts.

Between YouTube, Apple, and audio sources like Spotify, Overcast and others, the Ground Transportation Podcast regularly sees 2,000+ plays of its 60-minute episodes per month. Short-form content regularly sees 10k views in a given month, and has reached up to 80k views in a single month.

Why was this podcast successful?

There are a number of things that came together quite nicely with the Ground Transportation Podcast.

  1. Ken and James made recording a priority, where they brought their charismatic personalities. Every Friday afternoon is dedicated to recording podcast content, whether that's with a guest or showing up for co-hosted commentary style episodes.
  2. The podcast has systems and workflows developed by Red Cedar Marketing. Episodes publish every Wednesday, are promoted via email, and up to 4 video clips are published every single week across YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X.
  3. The podcast focused on strengthening key relationships with association leaders, existing clients, and referral sources. We explored creative ways to cross-promote and collaborate with guests, which led to new opportunities.
  4. The podcast has variety. From episode types (co-hosted interviews, 1:1 interviews, dash cam reactions) to transportation niches (motorcoach, black car, NEMT), this podcast brings an entertaining twist to an industry and it's niches.

Hi, Reader. Will history repeat itself like how MTV killed rock n' roll? Sure, Netflix and YouTube are now considered 'podcasting' platforms...but let's be real; the act of listening to a podcast extends far beyond a screen. And since this newsletter edition beats up on video to some degree, I've paired this topic with an interview with a host from an audio-only podcast in the accounting space. Let's dig in ๐Ÿ‘‡ Business podcasts are the 2nd most active genre First, there is a common...

Hi, Reader. First of all, I'd like to apologize for not sending a newsletter edition in the last month. Red Cedar Marketing is growing and I've been onboarding two new clients in July with two more coming in August. If you know any fantastic video podcast editors, please send them my way! What do we mean by 'thought leadership'? There's some people in professional service industries who believe 'thought leadership' is simply regurgitating existing information from influencers and AI tools....

Hi, Reader. Everyone wants to know about the ROI of podcasting. But what happens in a parallel universe if you *don't* launch a podcast? Most business leaders interested in launching a show believe it's a tool to generate more business. Yes. Podcasting is absolutely a new business generator. But it's so much more than that... Along your podcasting journey, you'll start to feel your confidence increase after publishing just one episode. After 10 episodes, your visibility starts to increase....
