🎙2Bobs and the benefits of having a podcast co-host

Hi, Reader.

Welcome to Podcasting in Professional Services—the newsletter for business podcasters.

Today, we're going to explore the opportunity and benefits of finding a podcast co-host.

Podcast Example: 2Bobs

What do you get when two opinionated and well-respected business consultants record and publish conversations?

One of the top podcasts in professional services.

Since 2017, David C. Baker and Blair Enns have published more than 200 value-rich episodes on the art of creative entrepreneurship through their show, 2Bobs.

Recently, David and Blair joined Podcasting in Professional Services to share their experience running 2Bobs, the benefits of co-hosting a podcast, and the impact their show has had on each of their businesses.

Stuck in a podcast rut? Find a co-host.

Most podcasts in professional services are hosted by a single person. Recently, I looked at a sample of more than 150 shows across accounting, financial services, AEC, consulting, and legal industries.

I found something interesting—only 3-in-10 shows have multiple hosts 🤯

If you're considering launching a show, finding a podcast co-host can diversify your business show.

If you're an established podcaster, having a co-host can make the entire experience more fun and enjoyable. (Believe me, I've been on both sides of that coin).

Action item: create a shortlist of possible co-hosts

Finding a good co-host is like searching for a good referral partner. Here are some of the criteria I recommend to my clients:

  1. Their target audience overlaps with yours
  2. They offer a non-competitive, possible complementary service
  3. They have a different worldview than you do
  4. You enjoy having a conversation with them

You may or may not know someone who would be a good fit to co-host a show with you. If it's something you're thinking about, these filters might be worthwhile remembering as you're doing networking.

I hope you enjoyed this edition of Podcasting in Professional Services. Thank you so much for reading. If you have any questions or feedback, please reply to this email.

Cheers,
- John

Let's dive in 👇 A History of Podcasting: From 1980s Radio Tech to Multi-Billion Dollar Industry Podcasting isn’t a fad that will go away like Clubhouse or Threads. In fact, podcasting has roots in the 1980s and sits alongside email and search as one of the...

Hi, Reader. A week or so ago, I posted on LinkedIn about a content framework that has been coming into focus: the podcast marketing funnel. It sparked some thoughtful responses from marketers, podcast hosts, and firm leaders. Naturally, I wanted to take a moment to expand on the subject and some of the points people chimed in with. Here’s the core insight: Discovery happens on video. Engagement happens in audio. Across several business podcasts my team and I produce, I noticed a consistent...

Hi, Reader. When you hear a new song for the first time, you might not like it. But after you hear it a few times, it starts to grow on you. Before long, it becomes your new favorite song and you can't believe you didn't like it when it first came out. Has this ever happened to you? It's psychology at play, and you can use this cognitive bias to help market smarter. Because, when it comes to marketing your professional services firm, the song must remain the same. On the latest episode of...
