How long does it REALLY take to launch a podcast? πŸ“†

Hi, Reader.

Welcome to Podcasting in Professional Services. Each week, you'll get podcasting research, trends, and examples. This week, we are going to explore how long it should take to launch a podcast and highlight two new shows in the Red Cedar portfolio.

How long does it take to launch a podcast?

When we launch a new podcast for clients, many have been sitting on the idea for months, even years. Their perspective is colored by the podcasts they listen toβ€”inside and outside of their industry and the business genre.

Technically, you only need three things to establish an RSS feed to push to Apple, Spotify, and other players:

  1. The name of your show
  2. Artwork
  3. An audio file

However, the process of launching a podcast shouldn't be rushed. Crafting a media brand that gains momentum over time and yields meaningful business outcomes requires intention and creative expertise.

At Red Cedar, we work with founders, business owners, and senior-level execs. These business leaders are usually very busy, but are able to dedicate 1-2 hours of their time each week to the podcast. Our show launch process usually takes between 4-6 weeks from kickoff to launch.

Here are some reflection questions that follow our process here at Red Cedar when we launch new shows for clients.

  • Foundation β€” How does the podcast connect to your marketing objectives and organizational growth goals?
  • Positioning β€” Why should your target listeners care? How will your show stand apart from others in your niche?
  • Production β€” How will you create your studio and workflows to balance production quality with efficiency?
  • Promotion β€” What systems are in place to promote the show consistently every week to maintain awareness?

This topic is fresh in my mind because we recently launched two new shows this week πŸ‘‡

School District Superheroes

The podcast that puts the SUPER back in Superintendent.

On School District Superheroes, the most innovative Superintendents share how they are reshaping the landscape of public education. From navigating funding realities and board dynamics to launching bold student initiatives and strengthening community partnerships, these district leaders share what it truly takes to lead at the highest level. Hosted by Nick Elevo, co-founder and co-CEO of Elevo Learning.

On The Lake with James Pitropov

Building on the lake isn’t just a construction project β€” it’s a lifestyle decision.

On The Lake with James Pitropov explores the rhythms of waterfront living: entertaining at the dock, planning for multi-generational families, protecting the shoreline, and creating spaces that feel as natural as the landscape itself. Through thoughtful conversations, expert guests, and stories from real projects, James bridges the technical realities of building on the water with the deeper experience of living close to it. Whether you’re dreaming, designing, or already living waterfront, this show will help you approach life on the lake with intention, confidence, and respect for the place you call home.
